Referring to a whole body position, the age-old gesture of bringing the palms together in front the heart center is called Anjali mudra, the most commonly used mudra in yoga. In India it is usually combined with the word “namaste” or “namaskar”, a sacred hello.
In Sanskrit, Anjali means “offering” and mudra means”seal” or “sign”. Anjali mudra is a sacred hand gesture that shifts the consciousness to the heart center, and connects the right and the left hemispheres of the brain. This is the process of union in yoga, awaking the sense of humility, respect for oneself and others and helping to release stress and anxiety. Practicing Anjali mudra, helps to align the mind and to enjoy the gift of life with gratitude, peace, clarity and vitality. The inner attitude has a strong effect on the actions.
