Empty stomach for a better yoga practice

Yoga postures are not exercises. Done with a certain level of awareness, they are vessels to higher consciousness in order to experiment the union of inner and outer with clarity, comfort and steadiness. When the stomach and the bowels are empty, the body is free from obstacles, the mind is free from thoughts and the energy moves upward to experiment all the benefits of yoga. A full stomach put too much weight and pressure on the abdominal organs during yoga practice making the body uncomfortable. During digestion, the body loses energy because most of the blood circulation is geared toward the digestive system. In preparation for morning yoga, the night before, eat a light and early meal to allow the food to be fully digested in the morning (at least 10 hours), after waking up, drink at least 2 full glasses of lukewarm water plain or with lime and honey, empty the bowels and avoid tea and coffee before yoga.
