Men have lots to gain by practicing yoga

From a young age, boys are conditioned to be strong, competitive and successful. The fast paced modern society constantly raises the bar for success putting men under extreme stress leading to physical, emotional and mental discomfort, insomnia and ultimately burnout. Hunting for more and more takes away the real wealth and prosperity in life: the inner-peace and happiness.
In today’s society, men see yoga as a women practice regardless of the fact that thousands of years ago, since its beginning in India yoga was a men-only practice, considering women as obstacles to enlightenment. Yoga was first exported to the United States by Indra Devi, a Russian woman who had studied yoga in India. The classical gentle non-competitive style of yoga attracted mainly housewives. That explains why yoga has been for a long time a female domain. It is only in the 1980s, with the birth of “Power Yoga”, an intense fast-paced fitness-based practice, that men started to join yoga classes.

“I’m not flexible enough” is the common motto refraining men from experiencing yoga

Men and women are born equally flexible and with the adolescence, it seems like boys lose their flexibility faster than girls because of the testosterone hormones that increase the muscle mass and strength and bones size. Men who practice sports like weight-lifting, cycling, running, tennis or football, build muscle strength making them tighter, less mobile and prone to injuries. In the corporate world, men and women spend much of their time sitting at a desk or on a plane and equally complaining about neck, shoulders, hips, back pain and insomnia. A regular yoga practice benefits equally men and women to live a better life.

Yoga brings all the benefits that both genders care about

  • Strength and Flexibility
  • Energy and Stamina
  • Healthy joints
  • Healthy spine, neck and shoulders
  • Bigger and Deeper Breaths increasing lung capacity
  • Stress relieve and Calmness
  • Focus and Clarity of mind
  • Well-being and Happiness
